A new initiative toward our vision... and you can help!
A word from Jim Nelms, President of GCISF:
Since our inception, GCISF has had a desire to offer CISM services to all of Georgia's public safety personnel. We have made great progress towards our goal of providing 24/7 CISM resources in Georgia, however, our current statistics are not reflective of comprehensive success. It is time to gear this thing up a bit and we need your help!
First, if you haven't renewed your membership do it today - at only $40 it is a cheap way to help the organization and get some great benefits for yourself! Second, take advantage of the training opportunities in Georgia - you get some great skills and a percentage of the tuition money goes back to GCISF!
Those of you who are familiar with our services know a CISM team is no accident. Historically CISM teams have required basic training and intentionally developed leadership. This has been done by the provision of certificate training and mentoring local teams. The time has come where we must begin to reach out to every public safety organization in Georgia and sell our process!
There are two ways we can accomplish reaching out to those agencies in Georgia who don't already take advantage of what we offer and over 1000 people who have been trained in CISM methods who are not connected with established teams: make cold calls (yuck - never fun!) or get an invite to speak to leadership from someone who knows them. Obviously the later method is preferable and likely, the more successful path.
So, here's the plan to help GCISF grow into the strong and comprehensive resource we know it can be:
- Get a committment from each member to approach persons they know in leadership positions and inquire about setting up a visit from the GCISF executive leadership to learn about what it is we do.
- Develop a comprehensive list of and visit every department, fire, police, EMS and hospital in Georgia by 2011.
- Apply for grant monies to expand free and low-cost training opportunities throughout the state of Georgia.
- Get CISM training added to the GPSTC calendar for 2010.
- Locate and recruit trained individuals in Georgia that are not currently connected with a team.
- Develop 12 regional CISM networks consistent with existing DHR regions.
- Locate and establish a physical office with two full time administrative staff members.
With your help and diligent support we can grow this organization to the next level. We must aggressively pursue new membership and inform at-risk organizations of the inherent problems of not pre-educating their members about stress issues!
Thank you in advance for you support... let's get busy!
